Another new kit?
25 February 2009
I’ve just seen here that there’s another new England home shirt out, available to pre-order from 2nd March. It only seems like yesterday that they had a new kit. In fact it was released last March, so just 12 months ago. The ‘old’ Home kit is now 2 years old, so clearly out of date!
Thankfully my children have no desire for an England shirt just Man Utd or Arsenal! However, if you are interested in the new England home kit you can buy from several retailers, including Kitbag, who are entering anyone who buys it into a prize draw to win a limited edition 1966 signed world cup winners shirt!
The new shirt will be revealed 28th March when the England team wear it for their game against Slovakia. Kick off is 5.15pm and can be seen live on Setanta.
Pancake Day 2009
22 February 2009
I was asked last week, “When’s Pancake Day?”, which happens to be this Tuesday, 24th February. Pancake Day is of course on Shrove Tuesday, but became known as Pancake Day as pancakes are traditionally eaten on this day. The reason? Well, Shrove Tuesday precedes Ash Wednesday, which is the first day of lent when 40 days of fasting would begin with only plain food being eaten. Ingredients such as eggs, milk and flour would be used up prior to this and so pancakes would be made to use these perishable items. Of course times have changed, but the tradition of making pancakes lives on. Nowadays, it is more common to give up something such as chocolate for lent rather than fast for the 40 days. Read more

When boys become men
18 February 2009
My eldest son who is nearly 15, no longer fits in to childrens’ clothing. I have to try and find reasonably priced school trousers, for example. The best deal that I have found is here at Burton’s. The trousers are easily washable and tough enough to last lots of wear and tear. They’re £20 a pair, but if you buy 2 pairs the cost is £30 for the two. You can get 10% off your order until 2nd March with the code 325TENOFF.
Shirts aren’t such a problem and I have manged to get these long sleeves, pack of 3 shirts from Bhs, who seem to recognise that children need school shirts past the age of 13! they also have short sleeved shirts here, again as a pack of 3. Both packs currently have 20% off and are available from £3,20 a pack.
Now if I could find suitable shoes so easily I’d be laughing!
