Today I’m on a roll…
20 November 2007
I have been meaning to contact Asda for sometime and today I did. I take an elderly relative shopping each week, who sadly can’t cope with a change in supermarket or I’d be taking her to one of the many other nearby supermarkets. What has Asda done to upset me so much? It forces me to use plastic bags! Forces me, I tell you!
OK, I’m never forced to do anything, but our local store and two others I recently visited have the habit of putting the shopping into their plastic bags despite us having our own reusable bags. Everybody talk of ’saving the planet’, ‘global warming’ ‘recycling‘ etc and so here at Fourjay Towers we try to do our bit. Everything we can recycle is recycled; glass, plastic, cardboard, paper etc. Our local council has provided new recycle bins and are now recycling more materials. We have a compost bin in the garden for peelings, coffee, tea bags etc and consequently our bin is usually fairly empty.![]()
Now what gets my goat is the supermarket putting my goods in to plastic bags even when I ask them not to. As soon as they spot some bleach, raw meat or a non food item they can’t resist! Out comes the Asda bag and in it goes! And out it goes as I repeat no thanks I don’t need a bag. I swear one day that’s what I’ll do; swear! Instead I have contacted Adsa and now wait to see what their response will be.
Drive Assist - Watchdog
20 November 2007
Thank goodness we turned our TV on last night. BBC’s Watchdog had just started and quick thinking Jim spotted a report that made our ears prick up. It was the report here on the car hire company Drive Assist.
In June I had a bump in my car that resulted in a replacement car from Drive Assist being driven by us for about 10 days. In truth we didn’t necessarily need this car, but as I reported at the time it came as a result of the many phone calls we received following the accident. We were assured it would cost us nothing as the costs would be reclaimed from the other party’s insurers. Sadly this wasn’t quite the case. Read more
It’s time to crack open the thermals
19 November 2007
We watch our boys play football each weekend and win or lose we all enjoy it. However, this weekend was the first really cold one here. It’s not been warm for a few weeks I know, but it sort of crept up on me this week.
The start of the season is always still t-shirt weather, but my goodness the thermals are out for next week; socks, vest, long johns, the lot. I hadn’t realised how chilly it would be until I’d stood on the touchline for 5 minutes. The wind and icy rain soon had the extremities frozen up. Thankfully I had my gloves and a ‘decent’ coat, but the thermal attire and scarf had all be left at home. Jim has just bought a new thermal top, so he had this on and was nice and warm. I don’t care if it’s a heatwave in November I’m wearing my thermals from now on. ![]()
Is it too early to book another holiday?
16 November 2007
Jim will pass out if I book more holidays I’m sure. We’re already going to Disneyland Paris next year. We’ve
been before andf it was amazing so I can’t wait for us to go again. This time we’re staying in the New York Hotel. We’re also going away to Wales again in a cottage, but I want some sunshine!
As soon as Christmas is over it’s a long wait before summer arrives. We thoroughly enjoyed Portugal last year. Jim even said only yesterday that he’d like to go back again, so I feel the need to look for flights and villas.
At last something Jim wants!
15 November 2007
Jim has seen the ultimate driving simulator for the PS2 or PS3. He’s now undecided whether he can ‘justify’ it or not! For goodness sake he rarely wants or needs anything, so I say go for it! Christmas is coming (just in case you’d missed that) and so is his 50th. No one can ever decide what to buy him, so I say he should buy this toy or at least allow me to buy it for him.
His mum asked what we’d like for Christmas today and all I could think of is more place mats like we had last year. They were lovely, but there were only four and we could do with a few more really. I had no idea where to get them so she has agreed to get some more for us this year. We really are very hard to buy for. I’ve already started to buy my presents from various others. I have a new alarm clock and pyjamas already set aside for Jim to ‘buy’ me. ![]()
So Jim please buy yourself the toy, so that I can buy you the game to use with it!!!
