A new carpet or the FA cup?

Manchester United Home Shirt 2006/07
I’m totally 100% football mad. Anyone who has witnessed me watching my beloved Manchester United will confirm this! Having ‘got our trophy back’ (that means we won the league and rightly so!) nothing else mattered with regards to football this season, but there was a small game going on at the New Wembley. I hoped I wouldn’t care, but when the opposition is the team formerly known as Chelsea it has to matter.
I had made the decision not to watch and as Jim has decided we should invest in a new carpet downstairs I though it would be the ideal time to take a look. Poor Jim nearly had a coronary when I said rather than carpet we could have wooden floors; real wood that is not laminate! He looked quite grey when I suggested it and having visited several shops today I can see why. It would’ve cost thousands unless I compromised and went for laminate. I’d rather do without and it’s carpet for us!
As for the football…we have decided not to mention the FA cup again until next year! Meanwhile…
We’ve got our trophy back! We’ve got our trophy back! We’ve got our trophy back!
It’s the turn of the iron to stop working now
14 May 2007
A couple of weeks a go the washing machine broke and now it’s the iron. Some may say thank goodness, but I love ironing! No, I really do. It may difficult for many to understand, but I’m Jane and I’m an ironing addict!
If it stays still long enough in this house it gets ironed! I can spend many a happy hour or two gazing across the park in front of the house and half watching some daytime TV, just me the iron and a pile of clothes! Imagine my horror when the iron wouldn’t work! In fairness a couple of days before it had developed a fault with the steam button, but then it stoppped all together.
Jim had bought it for me a year or two ago for Mother’s day. No I wasn’t annoyed, nor did I threaten him with unmentionable pain. I loved it! The boys got me a new ironing board for my birthday the same year at my request!
Luckily I was able to find a new iron and took delivery the next morning. I bought a Russell Hobbs steam generator iron like this.
It has 1.3 litre detachable water tank and is ready to use in minutes. My old iron, also a steam generator iron, had to be switched off each time its 1 litre tank was empty and took a good 10 minutes before I could use it. My latest toy is much better! It’s a bonus that I can refill the tank easily and quickly and be back to ironing in minutes. I’m so far very happy with my purchase.
What every 11 year old boy must have

It’s my youngest son’s birthday soon and all he wants is a Sony PSP. His brother already has one and I must admit it keeps him quiet on car journeys. I have tried, but i really can’t get the hang of the games on not just the PSP, but on any games console. The PSP not only plays games though. You can watch films too, so from that point of view they are good entertainment when you’re out and about.
I agreed to purchase the PSP, but it had to be in ‘ceramic white’ like this one as his brother’s is black. This not just to avoid confusion, but because my sons will never agree on anything. Quite literally when one says black the other says white!
As any good parent knows spending a small fortune on presents is not the end of the story. I have for 9 out of his previous 10 birhtdays avoided the dreaded party by what can only be classed as blackmail. I have promised extra gifts or days out, which in my defense were only as much as I would’ve spent on the birthday party. After the cake, balloons and party food there’s the party bags, which I seem to recall reading are on average about £7! It seems crazy to me, but thankfully my son has agreed to have two friends here for a sleepover…or maybe the party would have been easier?
If I’m not back by the end of the month it can be assumed that the sleepover was not a good idea!
Oh, I wish I’d looked after my teeth!
1 May 2007
Whenever we have to go to the dentist I’m reminded of this monologue by Pam Ayres. Perhaps that I remember it shows my age, but nonetheless I am amazed by how much dental care has changed since I was young. My dentist was an ogre as I remember and quite frankly scarred me for life.
I am now, as a result, very eagre to keep my teeth clean and shiny and for the last few years have used an electric toothbrush. My last one had started to die in as much as the battery would only stay charged for a day or two and then stop mid-brush. I asked my lovely dentist friend for help as when I’d loked there seemed to be more that one brush to choose from at varying prices, which always thros me in to confusion! My previous brush was a Philips similar to this and although I was happy with it the replacement brushes were fairly pricey. I was recommended the Braun Oral B range, which has less expensive replacement heads, so I was reliably informed.
I have since bought my new toothbrush similar to this one and it is amazing! It’s as easy to use as the Philips, but the brush head rotates and maybe because my old one was past its best my teeth look and feel cleaner. What I do like is that it vibrates to tell me my 30 seconds is up for that ‘quadrant’, whereas my old brush simply stoppped after the recommended two minuted of brushing.
It isn’t a cheap toothbrush, but in my opinion it’s well worth it to have healthy teeth and avoid the dentists drill!
