Customer loyalty?

13 April 2007

Little CarI must confess I don’t understand this at all but customer loyalty is undoubtedly a thing of the past. Yesterday Jane investigated the renewal of our car insurance and as I expected we can get a much better deal by starting afresh rather than taking up the renewal quotation. The difference is an astounding 13% on as close to a like for like basis as we can get it. Bizarrely it’s even from the same insurance company - Royal & Sun Alliance under the guise of More Th>n. The renewal quote is £260, the “new” online quote from their website is £229 with the only perceivable difference being a slight uplift in the Accidental Damage Excess.

Surfing around a bit has, on the face of it, saved us £31 which you may feel is not sufficient to warrant the time it has taken but when this is coupled to the affiliate commission we are also going to earn I can assure you that it most definitely is.

Let’s get this garden sorted

12 April 2007

Finally we have decided that we need to sort out the garden. We have lived here for more than 4 years and although we put down a nice block paved patio a couple of years ago we really haven’t done that much else since. When we bought the house the developers had put down a rear lawn but it wasn’t much cop then and its got worse since. The main eyesore however is the perimeter fencing which is bleak to say the least.

We have a choice of either putting up a new fence to screen the existing one or to use some fast growing hedge type plants to do the same job. After much deliberation we have decided on the latter. So the first job is going to be to dig out the borders and at the very least I will need to get myself a wheelbarrow as otherwise its going to be a real pain in the proverbial. The alternative, and the one I much prefer, is to get someone in (”GSI”). I have managed to persuade Jane that a GSI solution might be cheaper than DIY in the long run so a local gardener has been in and is preparing a quote.

Launch day

12 April 2007

Today (well actually it was yesterday in the main) we launched “Our Little Shop” onto the wibbly wobbly web.

What is it? Well it’s a shop, and not really that little but the domain name was available and fulfils both the number 1 and number 2 criterion of a good domain name. 1. It describes what the site is about and 2. It’s memorable. The shop itself is an Affiliate Window SOAP plugin. None the wiser? No I thought not - basically it means that all the complicated code is maintained by Affiliate Window all we had to do was plug it in to a website which is why we now have “Our Little Shop”.

So what is this blog bit all about? Well we intend to write reviews and stuff about general day to day shopping. Today for example the car insurance is due for renewal so Jane will be investigating whether we can get a better deal by moving elsewhere. Experience says we can, especially if we “do the deal” online. Tomorrow one of us will report what we found.
