Oh, of course that’s what KFS stands for (plus other abbreviations)!

Son Number One is going on his first camp with his school soon. Now it’s taken me a while to work out what CCF stood for. It’s Combined Cadet Force, which is the Army, Navy and RAF (Royal Air Force) sections for school children. My son joined this year and absolutely loves it. He was learning how to shoot this weekend, which included safe handling of guns and how to take apart and put back together a gun. It was followed by a test on the second day, which they needed to pass to be allowed to attend the shooting range on camp.
I’m not a fan of guns by any stretch of the imagination and I’m sure I’d be too frightened to attempt this excercise, but in these controlled circumstances I’m OK about my son having a go. It’s hardly shooting games, but a very well organised operation.
All that aside, I’m forever baffled by the jargon used and by the abbreviations. I’ve already said I took many weeks trying to guess what CCF stood for and ended up doing the sensible thing and I JGI (just googled it!). Today another letter appears for SNO (Son Number One) to attend a weekend Butt Marking. Not only was I confused as to what this means the letter said he needed, amongst other things, KFS. What on earth was KFS? SNO didn’t know so instead of wasting any more time I JGI to find it means knife, fork and spoon. Well, why not say that? At least now I can purchase said items for camp along with a Poncho roll and webbing. Look here if like me you had no idea what this was! It’s another language to me!
