We have just had a fabulous week away; just the two of us and no children! It was great! I managed to find us this great cottage near to Tavira in Portugal. With just the one bedroom there’s no space for children and makes it the ideal property for couples.
The cottage, Casa Do Pes De Serra, is set in a valley and within the grounds of the owners own villa it’s a beautiful and peaceful setting. Ideal for recharging your batteries and getting away from it all. The owners were only there for one day of our weeks stay, but were lovely and very helpful.
We had use of a large swimming pool, which was great as the temperatures were soaring all week. The pool is floodlight for night time swimming, which again is handy if you need to cool off. However, the cottage had air conditioning as well as room fans to keep us cool.
Sitting outside as the sun went down, with a book and a glass of wine was heaven! It was so peaceful and tranquil, with the only noise coming from the crickets!
We drove to Tavira, but didn’t take the boat to the island to see the beaches. The car parks were very busy, but as neither of us is great beach lovers this wasn’t a problem. Tavira was very pretty with plenty of restaurants, all serving delicious food. We did take ourselves to Faro beach one day to cool off and enjoy the benefit of the sea breeze. Despite being close to the airport we weren’t aware of the planes and the beach was beautifully clean and very popular with the locals. There were bars along the beach for refreshing drinks and snacks too.
We flew from Manchester with Thomsonfly, but most airlines fly to Faro for reasonable costs. We hired a car through Your Car Hire, which is a must. Unfortunately we didn’t get a car with air conditioning, which at first was a nightmare, but we soon got used to driving along with the windows open and got to like the windswept look! However, I wouldn’t recommend it!
If you’re looking for a week or two away and like us love Portugal then this cottage is and ideal base for your holiday.
