….. AKA the Generation Xcess saga.
Jane’s been busy since we got back from holiday sorting out her “prang”. I had best not offer any further comment as apparently it was my fault because rather than reverse the car into the drive the previous day I had driven it in forwards. That was why she was reversing out rather than driving straight out. We have sufficient space to turn the car round in our drive (which is what I normally do) but that is another story.
My return from holiday has been taken up with some urgent development work on the local rugby club’s web site - the site’s web statistics went ballistic, as did the Visitor’s Book, following the screening of an episode of ITV2’s Generation Xcess while we were away. The programme in question featured members of the club’s 1st XV out on the town on a Saturday night. As the title suggests there were a number of excesses depicted and some have attracted very severe levels of criticism including an RFU investigation. We had to suspend the Visitor’s Book but the maxim “there is no such thing as bad publicity” is evidently true as the web stats showed a threefold increase in the level of unique visitors. Unfortunately a significant proportion of those visitors have evidently been attracted to the web site for entirely the wrong reasons.

This episode has caused me a little bit of unexpected work but I really feel sorry for the new chairman of the club. He had nothing to do with the club’s decision making process that apparently sanctioned the participation in the programme but having been elected as the new chairman only a few weeks ago he has found himself in the middle of a major storm and it looks like it is going to rumble on for quite a while.
