Traditionally a leap year means that a woman can propse to a man, but where does this tradition come from? It is said to come from 5th century Ireland when Brigid of Kildaire complained to St Patrick that women had to wait so long for a man to proppose. St Patrick agreed that on this one day, 29th February, a woman could propose. According to some, but not actually proven, Queen Mary of Scotland made it law fro the man to accept. Should he refuse a fine was levied. However, in Greece it is considered bad luck to marry in a leap year.
